Simiuni Nauya, an Inuit sculptor and longtime collaborator, initiated this project. He invited Aurélie to create art workshops for members of the First Nations and Inuit communities living in Montréal. The project gives voice to their stories and honors the traditional art objects they created in memory of their loved ones who have passed away.
MEMORIES MAP is an immersive work that mesmerizes and disorients, blurring the boundaries between reality and unreality until the intangible becomes tangible. A true hallucinatory journey, the work invites an exploration of space, both beyond the self and within.
MEMORIES MAP offers a personal experience lived collectively; it brings us together and unites us.
The fragmentation of sound, light, and physical matter is our method of creation. The convergence of each collaborator’s expertise is essential to bringing this project to life: Robbie Madsen (ethno-spiritual consultant), Alexandre Burton (digital luthier), Chantal Labonté (lighting design), and Justin Houde (technical direction). We work through the weaving together and encounter of each person’s unique knowledge and practices.
